Todays fish of the day is a White Sturgeon!
First notable thing about them is that they are very large, as seen in this photo here.
White sturgeon, are a freshwater fish a part of the family Acipenseridae. The family Acipenseridae is known for holding about 27 different families of sturgeon, showing up as early as the early Jurassic, with the first modern sturgeon showing up in the mid Cretaceous period.
White sturgeon are actually local to the Columbia River and observable from the local fish ladder, for many in this email chain, in the dam if you go looking.
After it reaches sexual materity the white stergeon has been known to reach 5 feet to as large as 20 feet in some. Although the common size is about 7 feet long.
The white sturgeon is known to have issues traveling many of the local fish ladders within the Columbia River as our fish ladders are made more specifically for salmon and steelhead, this is a large issue for their migration upstream, and even cause problems traveling downstream, thus causing problem in their spawning season and diet.
